Missed Month of May

OMG, I skipped the entire month of May. Whoops. I just wasn't feeling very inspired, and that means I don't want to write.

Let me sum up my month for you (feel free to skip this section) : I finally got over being sick with this crazy cold that had been going on for at least 4 weeks. Then I went on a 3 week trip to the States, which was awesome. CONGRATULATIONS to my little sister, Anne Louise, who graduated from University of New Mexico with a B.A. in Sociology! This was the main reason for my trip. Saw lots of family in Albuquerque, and spent Mother's day with them all. Next, Anne Louise and I drove down to Las Cruces, NM where we both went to high school. I spent "quality" time with my sister and saw one of my dearest friends, Flea, and her baby.

After that it was on to Killeen, TX (Anne L. went back to Albuquerque) to visit another dear friend, Jana, and her baby. *Is anyone seeing a pattern here?* Last, but not least, I flew to Ohio to visit my old stomping grounds. There I got to catch up with my ex-neighbor and wonderful friend Destini, and get to meet her baby. Seeing all the babies was absolutely wonderful since they have all been born while I've been living here in Australia. They are all so incredibly cute!

(Family members- We're not having one for at least a couple of years- just so you know)

It was a wonderful trip- but would have been better if I hadn't caught yet another cold on my way home. BLECH! Double ear infections, sinus, all that lovely crap that made me want to poke something in my ear as the plane ascended, just to relieve the pressure! If you think I am being a drama queen, shortly after I got home I started hearing quite strangely out of my left ear. At my appointment with our Dr, find out that I have perforated my eardrum. Small hole right in the middle, which should be healed soon.

So that leads me to present day- still have the hole in my eardrum but hearing has improved considerably. Although every now and then it starts ringing on that side, causing me to look around quite madly and say "What? What did you say?" Which of course makes me appear to be quite crazy. Thats fine, I'm okay with crazy as long as people think its the harmless kind of crazy :)

I haven't been doing a whole heck of a lot since I got home. I pretty much tried to take it easy the first week I was home, trying to heal up and recover from jet lag. The jet lag really killed me this time on my trip, but a lot of that was not taking any time to just sleep it off. Once I was home it wasn't hard to just rent some movies and hole up, sleeping and eating and trying to get back on schedule. I am so lucky that they are so nice to me at my job- just telling me to come back when I feel like it.

It was a sad day today though. It was the last day that our Baskin Robbins was open. The only place you can get good American tasting ice cream, and now they are closed for good. Lucky for me I went in today and bought 2 pints of (overpriced) ice cream. Its not that Aussie ice cream isn't good, it just tastes a little different. Well, some brands taste a lot different, but I am an ice cream snob, so we just don't buy those brands now that I know. You think I am kidding but I really am an ice cream snob. If they sold Hagen Daz, or Ben & Jerry's, anything like that here I would totally buy it. Unless it was extremely overpriced- for example: the banana crop here was affected by Cyclone Larry. Since Australia has strict quarantine laws, the crop getting hit has affected banana prices everywhere. Last I checked it was $11.50 a kilo for bananas. Now I love bananas, but not at approx. $7 a banana. That's insane! So my potassium intake will just have to come from my daily vitamin, for now.

So that's my life for the last 6 or 7 weeks. Sorry to any of you who read this and have been missing it! I will definitely be posting more often. Especially now that its cold and the sun sets at 5:30ish - it really shortens my day. Once I get my disposable camera developed I hope to post some pics on here from my trip.

Ciao for now!
