Pics

Just thought I would update some pics here of my travels in the last few months. I finally got a camera developed that I had waited entirely too long for... The sad thing is these are pics of the US since I was traveling home. I will have lots of pics of the beach after we go to Cairns!!

Here's one of the beach in Hawaii- I overnighted there and had to take a pic of my feet in the sand and surf!!

The next one joins my sign collection- Eric and I used to own 2 turtles (before we moved here) and so I thought he would really appreciate this turtle crossing sign. You can't see it very well, but it definitely says Turtle Xing. This sign is leaving Tybee Island, GA back in January. My brother-in-law was nice enough to stop the car, get out in the drizzle and take this pic for me! Thanks so much, Chuck :)

Not a whole lot else going on. I went bowling this week, which was fun! My first experience with an Aussie bowling alley. No different than the US, just a little bit costly. It was definitely worth it though! The last two days have been cold and rainy-it actually is pretending to be winter here! I wish I hadn't worked because it was perfect "snuggle on the couch with hot chocolate and a good book" weather. I am hoping to do some housekeeping this weekend- need to start getting ready to have guests. Eric told me tonight that he wants to rearrange the living room- I shouldn't be that surprised since he likes to do that about every 6 months or so. I would also like to get some pictures printed from our travels- only bad thing about our digital camera is the pics go onto the computer, then don't get printed at the store. I'd like to do some scrapbooking this weekend, but we will take it one step at a time. I am still working on the "Story of Us" scrapbook I got for Valentine's day.

We'll see how it all goes. Now I'm going to head downstairs and see what is on the telly!

This and that

Just thought I would put another post up, since its late and I am waiting to call back to the States. I can talk to my sister who lives in the Eastern time zone, but everyone else lives further west and its just rude to call too early. Lucky for me, soon both sisters will live within a few miles of each other! Congratulations Anne Louise on getting into grad school and moving east!!! I am happy for her- especially since this will work out great for visits, phone calls, ect. Its always nice when I can save money on plane tickets, LOL.

Not a whole heck of a lot going on this week. The highlight was probably watching Superman Returns and playing volleyball. At volleyball on Tuesday we actually won our game! I think this is the first game that we have actually won (we've had some teams forfeit which counts as a win) since we started in May. I have to toot my own horn some, too- my serves were actually kicking some butt. Now I don't know exactly how this happened, since when I serve its usually 50/50 if its going to make it over the net at all! But I was so pleased. I'm either getting better or was just having a really good night. It would be nice if I was getting better since I'm not very good at team sports. Well, sports in general, to tell the truth. My motto is I am there for fun, not to actually win anything!

Not much else going on- I am going out with the ladies tomorrow night, which should be a good time. We are celebrating birthdays. Don't know where exactly we are going but it will be fun- the girls I know here always are!

I am on countdown to our holiday in August. I can't wait to go to Cairns!

Territory Day

We got to watch some fireworks this weekend. The Aussies call them crackers- and they were definitely loud. It was the celebration of Territory Day, when the NT (Northern Territory) first declared self government. It was a long, long time ago... 1978 to be exact. Strange to realize that you live somewhere that's been self governing for almost the same amount of time you've been alive!

The fireworks were neat, especially since its 4th of July weekend for everyone "back home". Although I thought a blazing hot Christmas felt weird, apparently a cold Independence Day feels weirder. We put our down comforter on the bed last week and its been nice to snuggle into at night. Another oz slang word for you- doona. AKA comforter, down comforter, ect.

I am becoming a television addict. I've dedicated Monday nights to prime time telly, especially now that Grey's Anatomy is back on. The programming is different- they cut of GA in the middle of season 2 (around November) and are now playing the rest of season 2 (last week was Thanksgiving) and apparently will barrel right into season 3 when it begins in September. Its a different way of doing it but at least I don't have some cliffhanger in May and have to wait until September until its resolved. I'm also into Desperate Housewives, but the season for that is strange, also. I watched the season finale when I was in the US so I haven't been too neurotic about catching every little DH detail since I know major story points. Its still very entertaining, and I forget how easy it is to be caught up in the soap opera until its Monday night and I am stationed in front of the tube again. And last but not least I watch Smallville (I can't wait to see the new Superman movie) on Tuesday nights, but sometimes this interferes with volleyball. What a geek I am! The good news is I get all my TV time in the first two days of the week and then I don't watch a whole lot more.

Well enough blathering on about my schedule. I have to work tomorrow and still need to shower, so I am off again, soon to be snug under my doona! :)
